Winterizing the Water System

In November, 2018, Brad Dame of Henderson Plumbing (417 650-7501) drained the water system in preparation for the winter. The following are the steps he took as best we could remember:

1.     In solar closet

        a.     Turn off water pump on the electric panel (not the water valve)

        b.     Turn off electricity to hot water heater…not Radiantec

2.     Turn on faucet in kitchen and drained a long while

3.     Turn off gas to hot water heater at the heater

4.     Drain water from hot water heater

5.     Turn on all 1st and 2nd floor water faucets

6.     Put nipple on hot water heater and attached compressor (his compressor was slightly larger than ours)

7.     Attached our hose from the outside shower hand held (because it was there) to the pressure tank and             did a “reverse flow” to blow out the system

8.     After all water was blown out, then opened the valves under the house and left them open

9.     Put a pint of antifreeze in all P traps and toilets

10.   Ran dishwasher rinse/drain and the washer spin/rinse cycles to empty and added a pint of antifreeze to         each and ran again briefly but did not drain

11    .Don’t know if he ever turned off the water valve at the pressure tank

12.   There is a shutoff in the laundry room that also needs to be off--to the water softener?
