September 23, 2016,

Deryl hung one of the hanging light fixtures that Papi purchased from Restore in Lenexa.  The second fixture that was to hang in the living area had one of its globes broken.  Deryl and Papi are on a quest to find another matching globe.

October 14, New globes fit and look okay.

September 23, 2016,

Two ladies from the Dallas County Assessors Office came to measure the cabin for tax purposes.

October 5, 2016

Papi worked on stringing the rope lights under the cabin.  First attempt was not successful but after reversing the rope the electrical circuit worked well.  Some plastic clips were glued into place to hold the rope lights up on the beams.

It was during this last few days of September and early October, 2016, that Papi worked on finding Tom and Carole Bostic in order to get the road easement that was signed in 1982 recorded with the county on the title to the property.  See the "Saga of the Road Easement" on the Stories page.

We were excited to have the convenience of being able to wash clothes and linens for the first time but found that the washer would not work.  Called Home Depot.  They gave us Jacobsen's Appliance store as a place from which to get warranty repair. Repairman arrived about 5 days later and diagnosed a faulty control panel.  Must be replaced. Went to laundromat in Buffalo. Waiting for part...

The new panel was to be installed on October 14, so we drove back down and the repairman could not get it to work...back to the drawing board.

On about November 12, 2016, Michael and Stacy Pate started designing the hearth for the woodstove.  Working at home they laid out the dimensions and shape. with Papi's guidance.

On November 13, 2016, the whole Pate family braved the cold to work on translating the design of the hearth into reality.

Thank you, Pates, for laying out the hearth.  Hope the tile gets laid soon...we need the heat!

On November 16, 2016, Baba and Papi returned to Riversong to work on tiling the platform the Pates built for the woodstove.  First order of business was to put the edging on for lining up the tiles.

On November 16, 2016, Papi rented a tile cutting saw from Home Depot for about $55 dollars for 24 hours.  He broke no tiles and cut no fingers!

On November 19, Papi and Michael went back to Riversong to finish up the hearth by adding trim and grouting the tile. In addition they added to the woodpile!  It was about 40 degrees all day inside and out!

On about November 28, 2016, Deryl sent this photo of the chimney being installed by Matthew.

On December 9, 2016, Papi and Baba went to Riversong for the day.  Found the temperature inside to be a balmy 42 degrees...'course it was about 20 outside so that was a plus.  Deryl has been working to get the Radiantec heating system working.  One of the two thermostats did not work properly and will need to be replaced.  Not all of the underneath is sealed off so the radiant heat is only slowly raising the temperature inside.  It did warm a few more degrees while we were there.  Apparently the solution used in the pipes has some impurities that need to be filtered out so Deryl has been cleaning that filter rather often.  In the future hopefully it will only need to be done occasionally.

Also, it has  been determined that the solar electrical system is not compatible with the needs of the clothes washer and that is the cause of it not working.  If the house electricity is switched to generator power to the solar batteries it will function...Now we have the dilemma of deciding whether to purchase a different washer and try to find a buyer for the first washer or to switch the generator on each time we want to use the washer and REMEMBER TO TURN IT BACK OFF EACH TIME!

Woodstove is ready to be primed!  Chimney stack is in place!  It's time!

Light fixture with new shades is hung from the ceiling with care.

On Thursday February 28, 2017, the finishing touches were placed on the cabin!

Welcome to Baba's porch!!!

Range hood installed!

Starting at the end of July, 2017, Papi began planning and preparing to install a stone façade behind the wood stove. He consulted with online experts, his brother Phil and son-in-law Michael and the helpful people at Lowe's.  He collected, arranged and rearranged stones from the creek and river.  Then the work began!

After much blood, sweat and cursing, Papi completed this job at the end of September.

For the "corner stone" Papi etched a piece of bottle glass found in the river and placed it near the center of the stones with a crawdad  lure to protect it.
